Dr. Michael Sheps is a Los Angeles-based chiropractor specializing in Laser Therapy, Decompression, and Chiropractic Care. Dr. Sheps received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology with an emphasis on Human Anatomy from Bloomfield College in 1980. He subsequently received a Master of Science from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science in 1982, a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the Life Chiropractic College in 1984, and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Life Chiropractic College in 1986. In 1998, he was certified in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. Throughout his career, Dr. Sheps has continued to expand his knowledge of chiropractic techniques and of the emerging field of medical technologies, ensuring he is well-equipped to provide his patients with comprehensive care.
In 1987, Dr. Sheps founded his first clinic, the All-Back and Joint Care Medical Group. Today, Dr. Sheps is the owner of Michael Sheps Chiropractor and the founder of Pacific Coast Sports Medicine.
Established in 2012, Pacific Coast Sports Medicine is the first multidisciplinary clinic of its kind. Built upon the principles of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and integrated orthopedic care, this renowned practice hosts a team of highly trained internists, orthopedic surgeons, pain management doctors, and chiropractors who leverage their combined expertise to more effectively diagnose and treat patients. The clinic’s collective goal is to address the underlying causes of musculoskeletal pain and injury by stimulating the body’s natural regenerative processes.

Dr. Sheps’ keen interest in alternative treatments and medical technology is illustrated in the research he has conducted in this field. Dr. Sheps partnered with Biolase–a leading global manufacturer in medical lasers–to develop the Epic T-series laser and the Diolase 10 Pain Therapy laser, both of which are used in podiatry, dentistry, and physical medicine. Dr. Sheps is credited with providing the original clinical research that guided the engineering of these lasers.
Additionally, Dr. Sheps partnered with Zimmer MedizinSystems to develop their TECAR and emField Pro therapy technologies. TECAR therapy delivers deeply penetrating heat that increases circulation and blood vessel dilation; this therapy is intended to reduce pain and inflammation and expedite recovery. The emFieldPro is a form of high energy inductive therapy that increases the energy accessible to damaged cells and supports the cells in optimizing function.
Dr. Sheps also collaborated with Dr. Allan Dyer–the inventor of the Trans-thoracic Cardiac Defibrillator–to develop the original protocols for Dr. Dyer’s Vertebral Axial Decompression (VAX-D) table. The VAX-D table is a non-surgical medical instrument utilized in spinal decompression therapy. To date, Dr. Sheps has used the VAX-D table to treat over 5,000 patients.
For more than twenty years, Dr. Sheps has trained and certified practitioners in laser therapy and provided clinical education on the topic. From 1998 to 2006, Dr. Sheps served as a non-compensated faculty member at the UCLA School of Medicine, where he taught an elective on complementary and alternative medicine. Dr. Sheps’ laser therapy techniques have been replicated nationwide in leading healthcare facilities, including the University of California Los Angeles, Johns Hopkins University, and The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. His laser therapy techniques were also adopted by Dave Fagan–the Executive Director of the Colyer Institute in San Diego, California–in the treatment of fungus on the toenails and on the tusks of elephants.

Dr. Sheps trains and certifies practitioners in laser therapy, as well as lectures and provides clinical education about this quickly growing field. His laser therapy techniques have been replicated nationwide in top health care facilities such as the Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Health Center at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Johns Hopkins University, the University of California Los Angeles, and have even been used to treat fungus on the toenails and tusks of elephants by Dave Fagan, Executive Director of the Colyer Institute in San Diego, CA.
To date Dr. Sheps has developed 3 patent–pending protocols for pain management and musculoskeletal treatments that feature a combination of laser therapy, cryotherapy, decompression (VAX–D), shockwave therapy (EPAT), muscle stimulation (Hako–Med), and sequential compression (Pressodermie/Vacuodermie). These protocols augment the current programs offered at his West Los Angeles facility, Biggest Loser Resorts, and other clinics.

Dr. Sheps commitment of excellence also extends outside of his practice and into the local community. For years he has been a proud supporter of Bobby Shriver, assisting with canvasing and fundraising for campaigns. In 2014, Dr. Sheps was appointed as the Company Chiropractor and a member of the Board of Directors for Los Angeles’ newest contemporary ballet company, Barak Ballet.
