Laser Therapy In Los Angeles

Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment used for pain relief, inflammation reduction, and injury recovery, helping patients reduce discomfort, improve mobility, and return to normal activity without surgery or medication. This therapeutic laser targets affected tissues at a cellular level to support healing, decrease irritation, and speed up recovery from both acute injuries and chronic conditions.

At his Brentwood practice, chiropractor Michael Sheps, D.C. uses advanced Berman and Phoenix laser systems with customized treatment plans for optimal results. Call the Los Angeles office or book online to schedule an appointment.

Laser Therapy – Class IV and Class IV Plus™

Laser therapy (also known as cold laser therapy or high-intensity deep tissue laser therapy) is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment that uses focused light energy to reduce pain and inflammation while supporting the body’s natural healing process. It is commonly used in sports medicine, physical therapy, and chiropractic care to treat injuries and chronic musculoskeletal conditions affecting muscles, joints, nerves, and soft tissue.

Laser therapy delivers targeted light energy into affected tissues at specific wavelengths to stimulate cellular activity and support recovery. This process helps reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and enhance the body’s natural repair response.

Unlike surgery or medication-based approaches, laser therapy is painless, requires no downtime, and allows patients to return to normal activities immediately after treatment.

About Class IV and Class IV Plus™

Class IV and Class IV Plus™ laser systems are advanced high-intensity therapies that deliver powerful, targeted light energy deep into muscles, joints, and connective tissue to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and accelerate healing at the source of pain. Systems such as CureWave™ (1280 nm), Phoenix (1275 nm), and the Berman 90-watt triwave, along with FAR infrared technology, are selected based on the condition being treated to optimize tissue penetration, pain relief, and recovery.

Whether you’re recovering from a sports injury, managing arthritis, or seeking long-term back pain relief, laser therapy offers a safe, non-invasive, and drug-free solution.

Sometimes, Dr. Sheps uses laser therapy for pain management. The waves of light energy reduce inflammation and stimulate nerve regeneration, accelerating your natural healing process.

Laser therapy can help treat a wide range of injuries and conditions, supporting pain relief, improved mobility, and faster recovery.

  • Pain relief (including arthritis, chronic pain, and joint inflammation)
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Accelerated tissue repair and cell growth
  • Improved vascular activity and circulation
  • Increased metabolic activity at the cellular level
  • Trigger point and muscle tension relief
  • Reduced fibrous (scar) tissue formation
  • Improved nerve function and regeneration
  • Support for immunoregulation
  • Faster wound and tissue healing
  • Relief from overuse injuries and repetitive strain conditions

Before recommending laser therapy, Dr. Sheps reviews your medical records and asks about your symptoms, including where the pain is, what it feels like, and if it gets worse during specific activities, like exercise. He completes a physical exam and orders diagnostic imaging like X-rays and/or ultrasound to examine your bones, joints, and the nearby soft tissues.

After identifying your symptoms’ source, Dr. Sheps develops a personalized laser therapy plan. This typically includes at least three sessions spaced a week apart.

On the day of treatment, you sit or lie on a chiropractic table and wear protective glasses. Dr. Sheps runs a hand-held laser device a few inches across your skin.

The device emits targeted light energy that penetrates your skin and activates healing at the cellular level. The laser energy heats your hard and soft tissues, increasing blood flow to the area while reducing inflammation. During treatment, it’s normal to experience a mild warming sensation.

You shouldn’t feel pain, but if you do, let Dr. Sheps know so that he can adjust the settings. After treatment is done, you return to your routine. No downtime or recovery is needed. Some people experience mild soreness for a day or two, but these symptoms should improve quickly. If they don’t, let Dr. Sheps know right away.
